The 43rd Annual Humboldt State Film Festival

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the 43rd Annual Film Festival is going on all week at the Van Duzer Theater at the HSU campus. It started last night and tonight they’re showing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at 8:30.

The show continues all week and culminates on Saturday with a Best of the Fest night at 730.

For complete info check out their site. Apparently it’s the longest student-run film festival in the nation.

They’re actually our friends so support them because they support us. You can expect to see some short films from the previous years of the festival here in a few days.

HumbyTV’s First Contest

There’s this band, right? They’re called NPK and they’ve played all over Humboldt County. They even gave us a music video to host and show off.

The other thing they gave us was a signed LP of their latest album, “The Current” THAT YOU CAN WIN!! All you have to do is sign up for our forums and you’ll be automatically entered to win it on May 1st. For more info check out NPK’s band page here.

Questions on the Quad & April Things

Have you been watching Questions on the Quad? Yes?

Well, they’ve all been brilliant (of course) but we cannot think of the best questions all the time. That’s why we’ve set up this. You have to register for the forum, but that shouldn’t be a problem because then you can take part in fun conversations with other HumbyTV people. Oh, and to get back to the forum, you just click “Interact” on the main page (even though when you hover, it’s a drop down menu, you can click the word “Interact.”) Confusing? It can be. The internet is a scary place. Email me at evan@humbytv.com if you have any questions.

Coming up in April we have a ton of new stuff. We recently moved into a new place in Arcata so we have been lagging behind.

Some fun stuff includes a video on the Taste of Main St. event that just happened, some new music videos we’ve done, QontheQ’s, and more!

Got a Video? Upload it!

We have an uploader at up.humbytv.com. It usually takes about 24 hours for the video to show up on the site. If it takes longer than that you can contact us.

Take a look around the site first. Does your video jive well with the other videos here (ie, it’s not a video of you doing bong rips in your grandma’s basement)?

Look at the videos we’ve made, do you think we’d think it’s cool?

We want your videos if you think we’d like them and they aren’t drug-centric. It’s like in There will be Blood: “We run a family business, here.”

Why would you put your video here, though, and not YouTube? Well, shucks, that’s an excellent question. The answer is this: YouTube will bury your videos beneath the billions of other ones and doesn’t have a geographically centered e-populous. And I’m assuming you’d like your video to be seen by the millions of screaming fans behind the RedWood Curtain who come to your shows instead of that one guy in New Zealand who thinks your cool but will never make it to one of your awesome live shows, right? Right.

We’re on the Cover of the Lumberjack!

Humboldt State’s student newspaper, the Lumberjack, chose us, HumbyTV as their front page story for this week’s issue.

You can read the story here. Pretty neat, right? Keep on watchin’!

We Want your Videos & Some Notes

This is what we’re looking for right now: Local bands from Humboldt County that have some quality music video and live stuff that they want us to host (because we cater to the people who will be going to your shows, y’know?) as well as short films that you’ve made during your tenure in the film department, the Journalism department, or just in your spare time. We’d love to show off what we in Humboldt can do.

Right now, we only have stuff that we’ve made. But we want stuff that YOU’VE made. Things that you’re proud of. Because, most likely, we’ll be proud of it too.

shoot me an email at evan@humbytv.com and we’ll talk.

Last week, we shot NINE events. That’s right, 8+1.

So you can expect a load of new content within the next couple of weeks. Everything from bands to the Humboldt Nation to student films to maybe even music videos, who knows. This is a time for growth, kids.

Be our friend on MySpace, too.

World Domination Engaged.

Hey y’all.

A few new things have come into being:

First: Be our Friend on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube.

Second: If you’re a band. Contact us. We want to host your videos. If you’re a local filmmaker, Contact Us. We want to host your stuff. If you’re a local artist, Contact us. We want to interview you. All you have to do is help us by directing people our way. Ye-yea.

Other than that, we’ve got a few more videos coming out this week so watch out!
