New Videos from the Farmer’s MArket May 1st, 2011
May 2nd
We have a few videos from the Framer’s Market this weekend, May 1, 2011. They actually have nothing to do with produce or the usual Farmer’s Market merchandise in anyway. You see, the Farmer’s Market in Arcata is so unique. I certainly haven’t seen a market with this much going on. And it happens regularly.
In the videos we shot while walking around, we found Jacqueline, who is the woman behind the Poem Store. She attends every Farmer’s Market, so you probably have seen her. If case you haven’t gone up to her, to ask whats going… we did.
Also, Blue Lotus Jazz featuring Tap Dancers Melinda Sullivan & Sarah Reich were there with a live set. We filmed a few minutes of Tap for you.
Last, but not least, the Shea FreeLove Circus was there performing for the kids. We filmed them entertaining the children on this wonderfully sunny afternoon in Arcata.
I hope you didn’t miss it. But if you did, we can offer you only a taste of what was going on. If your in the area, DON”T miss it next week. If you’re visiting the area, plan to be at the Arcata plaza on any Saturday morning to early afternoon and check this out.
New Videos on HumbyTV
Apr 22nd
We have been doing some “spring cleaning” here at HumbyTV. As we go through the 4 or 5 thousand gigs of video, we’ve stumbled upon some cool stuff that never got released for one reason or another. We found video of the Love Walla. A guy who is walking from Canada to Mexico for a good cause. We also found some live music by Kindred Spirit, Wowmama, and moo-got-2. We are rolling this video out daily. We released some video today of our friend Shea FreeLove. Just a short clip with Shea. It ws filmed at the end of 2010, and he performs as well as talks to us about a charity he’s heavily involved in, “Clowns Without Borders.”
So keep a look out & Enjoy!

420 Anyone!?! Where the hell did “420″ come from? A Time? Place? Code?
Apr 20th
There is a lot of speculation as to why the number 420, or the time, 4:20, has become a world known reference. First thought in most people’s mind is Marijuana. Some say if your caught in Califonia smoking pot, you are engaging in code “420″. I dunno about that. From my experience, I came upon the term 420 back in 1991 and 1992 in the parking lots of the Grateful Dead and Phish. (ugh… I hate putting them in the same sentence) The term 420 slowly emerged. I say slowly because there was no Internet to exploit it. It was a word of mouth type of thing. In the early 1990′s, there were no cell phones or ways of communicating with friends while traveling from show to show, or city to city. We realized 4:20 was a perfect time to meet people at each venue. At 4:20, the parking lots were open, people had their spots set up and were getting settled. But where were your friends within this fan made city? Did they make it to the show? To find out and make it easy, we would just always presume to meet at “4:20, Will Call.” It worked. At this time, not everyone in the crowd knew the term. Small groups of fans knew what it you meant when you declared, “420!” Those that did declare and partake… well… they usually became instant friends.
From 1992-1996, 420/4:20 stayed WAAAY underground.
After 1996 though, in my opinion, it was becoming too “Cool” to use the term 420. Highschooler’s and Dave Mathew’s fans got a hold of it. Saying 420 at every and any chance. Notebooks, bumper stickers, t-shirts, news reports!?!, graffiti, high school, that stupid store in the mall, anywhere and everywhere…
When I first came along the term 420, my first niece and nephew were about to be born. Now at ages 14 and 15, they’re saying, ”Hey Uncle, all those times you said 420… did you mean…??
To me 420 was a time period of my life. I look back and see something personal. But unfortunately, like so many other things, I watched it get commercially destroyed. My parents, sisters, professors, any and all authority suddenly think they cracked the code in teenage rebellion by learning the commercially developed mainstream version of the reference to 420.
But hey, who am I to say? I figured today, being April 20th, would be a good day to share my opinion and point of view of this cultural phenomenon of 420/4:20. I certainly don’t judge people or want to be judged.
But where did this term come from?? Is it a pot arrest in California? A personal virtue that some people take almost religiously? Maybe somewhere in the middle?
What do you think 420/4:20 means? What does 420/4:20 mean to you? Where did you first learn of it? These answers probably vary from individual to individual. But I am curious.
Enjoy your day!

On New Year’s EVE, we were invited to the Jambalaya to film the Tom Petty cover band, Full Moon Fever. We had no idea how much fun could be had. The Tom Petty crowd was there for sure. All drinking cheap beer and screaming lyrics in the air. At one point Things were so loud with music and fans, I thought for sure that something bad was gonna happen. Nope. Just really drunk partying people, being Humboldt.
Check out this video from the show, American Girl. More videos from this night to come, so check back frequently.
In case you missed it, here is the video: Full Moon Fever – American Girl
